Meditation is a state of being. Most people think of meditation as sitting quietly with your eyes closed with and the intent to clear your mind.  The truth is there are various types of meditation. What works for one may not resonate with another. Some meditations may involve listening to relaxing music while others may involve chanting mantras or visualizing a serene environment.
